Australia announces two new offshore wind zones up for consultation

Wednesday, August 30 2023

Wind Energy – Australia

The Australian government yesterday revealed plans to open consultations on two new offshore wind farm zones – in the Bass Strait and off Bunbury in Western Australia.

Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen said this means all six proposed offshore wind zones in the country will be declared by mid-2024.

The Bass Strait and Bunbury consultations will kick off in October and November respectively. This adds momentum to Australia’s offshore wind industry, seen as crucial for the renewable energy transition.
