Wind Energy – Rights to Develop

Sven Utermöhlen, CEO, RWE Offshore Wind announced that RWE got awarded the rights to develop the remaining two sites of the Nordseecluster with its total capacity of 1.6 gigawatts.

The four wind farms in total form the first gigawatt-scale offshore wind cluster in our German market.

The combination of these four wind farms allows for unique economies of scale. Once all parts of the Nordseecluster become operational in 2027 and 2029, RWE will contribute to decarbonisation in Germany by generating around six terawatt hours of green electricity per year – enough to supply the equivalent of 1.6 million households.

The auction success with very attractive conditions – paying no negative bid component – significantly strengthens the RWE position. Utermöhlen says that at the same time, it is also a great signal for the energy transition as every new wind farm adds to the green electricity supply.
