Wind Energy – Turbine Installation Vineyard Wind

Soon DEME Offshore’s Sea Installer will start the installation of 62 GE’s Haliade-X 13 MW wind turbines at the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore wind project site in Massachusetts.

The 806 MW offshore wind farm could feed first power into the grid as soon as mid-October before it is fully commissioned next year.

Vineyard Wind 1, owned by the joint venture between Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), is located 15 miles (24 kilometres) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard and is the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm to be approved for construction in the US.

Earlier this year the Sea Installer has undergone an eye-catching metamorphosis. The most notable activity was the replacement of the existing 900 t crane with an imposing 1,600 t crane.

DEME will be shuttling the GE wind turbines on US barges outfitted with motion compensated tables enabling DEME to execute vessel-to-vessel transfers of the WTG components.
