Wind Energy – Monopile Installation

Earlier than planned Jan De Nul’s brand-new Heavy Lift Vessel Les Alizés returned to Eemshaven on Monday July 31 with still four monopiles on board.

Archive picture.

The vessel left Eemshaven on July 27 with five monopiles, ready to start with its first project, the construction of the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farm.

This indicates that only 1 monopile has been installed so far. Nothing is yet known about why the four monopiles are still on board.

Jan De Nul’s scope of work includes the transport and installation of 106 wind turbine monopile foundations and one offshore substation foundation, including the associated topside.

For the first time, client Ørsted will use monopiles that do not require an intermediate piece between foundation and turbine.

The Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be developed near the company’s existing offshore wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Borkum Riffgrund 2 while the Gode Wind 3 will be built adjacent to Gode Wind 1 and 2.
