Wind Energy – Submarine Cables Taiwan
Ørsted signed a submarine cable supply contract with LS Cable & System for its 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.
Ørsted previously signed a contract with LS C&S in 2019 to supply submarine cables for the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms and this time they will also supply them for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 project.
Seung-Ho Choe, Country Manager for Ørsted Korea, said: “The contract between Ørsted and LS C&S is another success story in Korea’s offshore wind supply chain. Ørsted looks forward to collaborating with capable Korean suppliers on domestic projects in Korea to support the country’s decarbonization journey.”
Over the past decade, Ørsted has collaborated with Korea in the offshore wind sector, working with many Korean suppliers to build offshore wind projects in Europe and Asia, and provided more than 3 trillion won worth of contracts. Ørsted plans to further expand collaboration with capable domestic companies in Korea to accelerate the development of offshore wind projects within the country.
Gareth Dooley, Ørsted Deputy Programme Director for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms, said, “The contract between LS C&S and Ørsted shows the strength of the Korean supply chain for large-scale renewable energy projects. Through our close collaboration, Ørsted and LS C&S will enable the timely production and deployment of the submarine cables for Ørsted’s largest and most advanced offshore wind farms in the Asia-Pacific region.”
