Wind Energy – USA Foundation Installation

DEME Offshore’s heavy-lift vessel Orion has left Rotterdam and is headed to Halifax, Canada, to kickstart foundation installation on Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm.

The arrival of Orion is a highly anticipated event, as it marks the entry of the US into the commercial offshore wind era. At Vineyard Wind, Orion will install 62 monopiles.

Later this year, DEME’s Sea Installer will perform the project’s turbine installation campaign, involving 62 GE’s 13-MW HaliadeX turbines.

To achieve this, Sea Installer is currently undergoing a main crane upgrade in Rotterdam, which will boost its maximum capacity from 900mT to 1600mT.
