Wind Energy – Converter Stations
Dragados Offshore in consortium with Siemens Energy, has been awarded a multi-year framework agreement by TenneT for the development of three 2 GW windfarm energy converter platforms offshore in the North Sea: BalWin3, LanWin4 and LanWin2.
The converter platforms will connect the offshore stations via 66 kV alternating current generated by several wind farms and convert it to 525 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), which will then be reconverted into alternating current at onshore stations approximately 200 km away. Specifically, two HVDC stations for BalWin3 and LanWin4 are both connected to the onshore grid in the coastal region of Wilhelmshaven, while the LanWin2 link is connecting in the area of Heide.
Dragados Offshore is responsible for providing the offshore platforms, including detail design and engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, load out, transportation, installation and hook-up of the offshore platform, and installation and commissioning of its platform systems. The topsides have a weight of approx. 24.000 tons each and the jackets of approx. 10.000 tons each.
