General – First FSRU for Hong Kong

The world’s largest FSRU, owned by MOL, has arrived in Hong Kong and will soon start serving Hong Kong’s first LNG import facility, CLP and HK Electric said last week.

As reported by the World’s Premier LNG Platform, LNG Prime, the 263,000-cbm MOL FSRU Challenger left Singapore a week earlier.

The FSRU will be renamed Bauhinia Spirit.

Dutch Vopak recently said it will not buy a 49.99 percent stake in the FSRU from Japan’s MOL, but it will remain involved in the commissioning of the terminal and will continue to provide support to the operation of the terminal as required.

Vopak has been working with the FSRU’s owner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) of Japan to develop and commission the vessel, but the delay of the project has resulted in reduced attractiveness and made Vopak decide not to make use of the share right.
