Wind Energy – Portugal
Copenhagen Offshore Partners opened a new office in Porto, Portugal.
From this office a COP team is advancing early market development activities for a 2 GW floating offshore wind project called Nortada off the coast of Figueira da Foz.
The project is positioned to be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the country and will help Portugal achieve its 10GW offshore wind goals. Nortada is named for the dominant wind of the Portuguese coast.
“We are proud to establish a local footprint in Portugal and support the country in its efforts to reach 10GW of offshore wind goals,” said COP Partner and European Market Lead, Alan Hannah. “As a leader in the charge to bring floating offshore wind solutions into the energy mix, our COP team is especially excited by the opportunity in Portugal where conditions are right to advance floating wind and grow our portfolio.”
COP Portugal Market Director, Afonso César Machado said: “The Nortada project will serve as an example in Portugal of how clean energy can bring more than just power, but can offer a pathway to reindustrialization and economic growth. We are committed to working with local partners in the region to ensure that offshore wind development contributes to well-paid jobs, local manufacturing opportunities, and other synergies that lift up local communities.”
