General – Hydrogen
Maarten Wetselaar, CEO CEPSA, announced the investment of 3 billion euros in Andalusia to build the largest green hydrogen project in Europe.
With an additional 2 billion euros CEPSA will develop a 3GW portfolio of wind and solar power projects to generate renewable electricity.
The Cepsa green hydrogen valley project will produce 50% of the green hydrogen production targeted by the Spanish Government for the whole of Spain by 2030.
With this investment CEPSA will produce 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, create over 10,000 new jobs, and help decarbonize industry and heavy road and maritime transport, reducing CO2 emissions by six million tons.
With hydrogen at the centre of the agenda for European energy, this project will make Andalusia and Spain a strategic leader in the region and will be imperative for the energy security, supply and independence. The ports in Andalusia will hold true global significance within the international hydrogen corridors, connecting with the north of Europe through the Rotterdam port.
