New multi-purpose vessel Ocean Surveyor 8 is being built in Taiwan

Tuesday, November 15 2022

General – Taiwan

On November 1st, IOG and Shing Sheng Fa Boat Building Co. signed a contract to jointly build a 36-meter multi-purpose vessel Ocean Surveyor 8.

The delivery of the new vessel will be completed in the first quarter of 2024, and then join the IOG offshore wind fleet.

In response to the needs of our offshore wind work, the vessel has cabins for more than 22 people and offshore operation capability for at least 2 weeks to perform the best offshore operation efficiency.

Along with the clarity of the local content requirements in Taiwan’s Round 3 of offshore wind development, OS8 is equipped with a basic dynamic positioning system to enhance the capability of our local offshore wind survey team.

OS8 will mainly operate in offshore wind survey projects, which include geophysical survey, potential unexploded ordnance (PUXO) survey, underwater cultural heritage survey, underwater survey with ROV, maintenance survey and construction supports, including buoy deployment and marine mammal observer (MMO).
