Wind Energy – Floating Wind
Mainstream Renewable Power has signed a US$41.38 million lease agreement with Crown Estate Scotland to develop a 1.8-GW floating offshore wind farm off the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland.
In August, Mainstream and partner Ocean Winds were declared preferred bidder under the ScotWind clearing process.
They have named the project Arven Offshore Wind Farm after the Norwegian word for heritage or legacy, due in part to the historic Norse connection with the islands.
Mainstream’s recent combination with Aker Offshore Wind brought together the latter’s technical and engineering capabilities with Mainstream’s project development methodology.
The company already has worked with Ocean Winds in the joint venture KF Wind in South Korea and is in a consortium bidding for Norway’s upcoming leasing round for floating wind at Utsira Nord in the North Sea.
