Fossil Energy – Drilling

ADNOC Drilling has delivered a new world record for the longest horizontal well, drilled on the giant Upper Zakum field.

The well reached 50,000 ft, eclipsing the 49,200 ft well drilled by Rosneft on the Sakhalin-1 project in 2017.

The well was drilled from Umm Al Anbar, one of many artificial islands that operate offshore Abu Dhabi.

These islands have environmental and cost benefits and form an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to reach 5 million bbl/d oil capacity and expand sour gas production.
