Irish ambitions for offshore wind are sky high

Monday, September 12 2022

Wind Energy – Ireland

Today marks the start of a three-day trade mission to Cork, focusing on Irish offshore wind, floating offshore wind, green hydrogen and port development.

The mission is complemented with a special visit of the Dutch minister for Climate and Energy Policy Rob Jetten, and Ossian Smyth, TD (Irish Minister of State for Public Procurement, eGovernment and Circular Economy).

To serve as a source of knowledge for the delegation, Royal HaskoningDHV was honored to draft a market study, commissioned by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ireland working closely together with Holland Home of Wind Energy and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

The Irish ambitions for offshore wind are sky high. The government set a target of 7 GW offshore wind, installed as soon as 2030, and more than 30 GW of floating offshore wind in the long term.

This will be a game changer for Ireland and Europe in the quest for energy independence and decarbonisation.
