Fossil Energy – Skarv Field
Aker BP has been granted consent by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for use of the AKOFS Seafarer mobile drilling rig for well intervention activities on Skarv field offshore Norway.
Skarv lies in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea 35 km southwest of Norne field in 350-450 m water depth. Discovered in 1998, Skarv produces gas and oil from Lower and Middle Jurassic sandstone in the Tilje, Ile, and Garn formations and has been developed with a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). Production began in 2013 (OGJ Online, Jan. 4, 2013).
The field has been produced with pressure support by gas injection and gas lift. In this year’s first quarter, the operator initiated gas blowdown that it expects will lead to an increase in take-up of available gas processing and export capacity from the Skarv FPSO and Åsgard pipeline transport system to boost gas exports to Europe.
