Transocean scores two new drillship charters for US Gulf

Wednesday, September 7 2022

Fossil Energy – Drilling

Transocean has been awarded two new charters for drillship Deepwater Asgard for work in the US Gulf that add approximately 14 months of backlog to the rig.

The first charter is for one well with Murphy at a dayrate of $395,000. Operations will begin following the rig’s current contract and a planned out-of-service period. Murphy also has an option for one more well at the same dayrate. The contract backlog is approximately $20 million.

The second charter is with an unnamed operator at $440,000 per day for one year, plus up to $40,000 per day for additional products and services.

This programme is expected to start in the first half of 2023. The operator has three one-year options at dayrates to be mutually agreed. The backlog for the firm portion of the contract is approximately $161 million, excluding any revenue associated with the additional products and services.
