Eni discovers gas offshore Cyprus

Sunday, August 21 2022

Fossil Energy – Cyprus

Eni discovers gas with Cronos-1 Exploration Well in Block 6 offshore Cyprus

It will be the second discovery on the block, following the ‘Zohr-like’ Calypso discovery made in 2018. TotalEnergies is a partner. Europe’s need for additional gas supplies has boosted the strategic importance of this area.

Other notable activity offshore Cyprus this year includes ExxonMobil’s Glaucus appraisal well, which confirmed high-quality gas but it may not be as large as the original estimate of 5-8 Tcf of gas in-place.

The US Major has started shooting seismic in Block 5. Chevron is aiming to make a development decision on the 3-5 Tcf Aphrodite discovery by year-end. And Turkey is resuming East Med exploration after a two-year break – a reminder of the political tensions.
