Offshore wind projects for Northland in Taiwan clear EIA review

Friday, August 19 2022

Wind Energy – Taiwan

Northland Power has secured environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval for its combined 1800MW CanWind and NorthWind projects off the coast of Taiwan.

The two wind farms, unveiled by Northland at the start of 2021, are located off the coasts of Taichung county and Chunghwa, respectively.

A Northland spokesperson said the Canadian developer can now bid the projects into Taiwan’s Round 3 offshore wind auction, which launched this week to award 3GW of new lease rights.

Northland entered the Taiwan market with the development of the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project in 2016.

Mid-July this year the company opened its new office in Taipei, a symbolic move that reinforces the company’s commitment to Taiwan’s offshore wind and clean energy market.
