First manned platform electrification project in the Netherlands

Tuesday, August 16 2022

Fossil Energy – Ameland Westgat

For the Ameland Westgat electrification project Boskalis installed a 4.5-kilometer power cable between the land station on the Dutch island of Ameland and a gas platform which is located a short distance off the coast.

The first cable section with a length of 3 kilometers from the platform to the beach was installed by  cable-laying vessel Spirit and buried by means of Controlled Flow Excavation.

On the beach the other 1.5-kilometer cable section was laid across de dunes towards the land station and buried with a so-called drainage burial tool to minimize the impact on the environment.
