General – salvage
Yesterday a rudderless cargo ship has collided with a foundation at the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind zone off the Netherlands.
The coastguard said the Julietta D vessel hit the foundation of a platform yet to be installed, but could not determine whether or not there is any damage to the foundation.
TenneT said on Monday evening it believed the ship had collided with the foundation for the HKZ Beta substation. The base was installed last year but the topside has not yet been lifted into place.
Earlier on Monday, the Julietta D had collided with the Pechora Star, when the former’s anchor failed to hold.
The Julietta D had been out of control and taking on water.
The 18 crew members have been evacuated by search and rescue helicopters.
The Multratug 18 as well as the Sovereign have established a tow connection with the Julietta D.
Early in the evening the tow connection between the Multratug and the Julietta D was broken. Attempts to establish the tow connection again with the rear of the vessel were successful.
The Julietta will be towed to Rotterdam.
