General – REEF
Elia Group CEO Chris Peeters will become chair of the Roundtable for Europe’s Energy Future (REEF) in January 2022.
REEF brings together executives from across the energy industry.
As a sounding board for European policymakers, the organisation proposes ideas relating to the practical implementation of the energy transition. The Roundtable meets several times a year for open discussions with key players in European energy policy, such as representatives of the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.
The Roundtable for Europe’s Energy Future is an international group with a unique combination of members: it includes transmission system operators (Elia Group, TenneT, RTE, Statnett, NGV, APG), power generators (Statkraft) and digital technology companies (Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, GE Renewables and IBM Europe).
As a cross-sectoral organisation, REEF puts forward concrete proposals related to the provision of sustainable energy and economic change. REEF was founded 10 years ago and has a rotating chair that changes every 18 months.
“Serving as the chair of REEF is a great honour. REEF is a unique international group of CEOs who seek out and find common ground in terms of accelerating the energy transition. Over the next year and a half, I want to focus on the concrete implementation of the climate ambitions set out in the European Green Deal, the Fit for 55 legislative package and COP26. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we have managed to continue working during Manon van Beek’s time as chair. I would like to sincerely thank her, as the CEO of TenneT, for her strong leadership during these difficult times,” said Chris Peeters – CEO, Elia Group.
Manon van Beek – CEO, TenneT: “REEF is a group of CEOs who, driven by their personal commitment, aim to serve as a reliable advisory body for energy transition issues that extend beyond the boundaries of their own organisation. REEF members think in terms of system-level transition and seek out European cooperation in order to jointly implement the Green Deal. I am delighted that, despite the ongoing COVID-19 situation, we’ve been able to conduct several energetic and action-oriented online dialogues with Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission, including Frans Timmermans. It is with pleasure and confidence that I pass on my responsibilities as chair to Chris Peeters. I’m looking forward to our upcoming dialogues.”
