One Borssele turbine out of service due to malfunction and fire

Thursday, October 28 2021

Wind energy – fire

One of the turbines of the Dutch Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm operated by Ørsted has malfunctioned and subsequently had a fire in the nacelle.

No employees were present when the fire broke out and no one was injured.

The turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa is investigating the cause of the failure in close collaboration with Ørsted.

The damaged turbine is dismantled and Ørsted examines which parts of the turbine can possibly be reused. The other 93 turbines of Borssele 1 & 2 show no abnormalities.

The offshore wind farm continues to operate, with the exception of the damaged turbine and two other turbines directly connected to it. These two turbines have not suffered any damage and show no abnormalities.

Ørsted is working to get these two turbines back online as soon as possible.
