General – NOGEPA
Menno Snel will take office as chairman of NOGEPA, the trade association for the oil and gas industry in the Netherlands.
It is the first time that NOGEPA has opted for an independent chairman to give direction to the association.
The members of NOGEPA and Menno Snel are looking forward to working together in the transition to a CO2-free energy supply in 2050. Dutch natural gas plays an important role in this energy transition.
Menno Snel was State Secretary of Finance in the Rutte III cabinet from 2017 to the end of 2019. Before that, he was a.o. administrator at the IMF in Washington, director at pension provider APG and deputy director-general tax affairs at the Ministry of Finance.
Menno Snel: “The transition to a CO2 neutral future is perhaps the most important task that we all now face. I am convinced that the energy transition can only be successfully progressed through a firm commitment from the sector. The starting points are clear to me: the sector can and wants to use its knowledge and innovations to make an important contribution to the energy supply of today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.”
“For example, by smartly deploying existing infrastructure for the production and transport of (green) hydrogen, but also by storing CO2 in empty gas fields. Until the transition is completed, our natural gas will still be badly needed. It is then important to produce that natural gas in a clean, safe and responsible manner in the Netherlands. I look forward to guiding the board of NOGEPA and the sector as an independent chairman.”
Former secretary-general of NOGEPA Jo Peters will step down on 1 June. After representing the interests of the NOGEPA members for nine years, he has indicated to orientate himself on other matters.
