Spanish engineering firm Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, has signed a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract with Empire Wind LLC, to study the implementation of a solution based on Concrete Gravity Base foundations for the wind turbines at the Empire Wind project in New York.
The FEED contract started on 1st February and will be completed in August 2021. For this FEED contract, Dragados USA joined Cobra and Esteyco as a local construction partner.
Cobra and Esteyco and designer of this ELISA Gravity Based Foundations, have been working with Equinor in the Empire Wind project since 2019, starting with a contract for a concept study.
Empire Wind is located 15-30 miles southeast of Long Island and spans 80,000 acres, with water depths of between 65 and 131 feet. The lease was acquired in 2017 and is being developed in two phases (Empire Wind 1 and Empire Wind 2) with a total installed capacity of more than 2 GW (816 + 1,260 MW). It is being developed by Equinor and BP through their 50/50 strategic partnership in the US.
