Cosco Shipping Shipyard in Nantong, China, has laid the keel for Jan De Nul’s new jack-up installation vessel, Voltaire
Voltaire is designed to transport, lift and install next-generation offshore wind turbines and foundations.
Compared to existing vessels, Voltaire will have more deck space and lower fuel consumption and emissions. Apart from working in the offshore wind industry, it will also be capable of working in the offshore oil and gas industry, and of working on decommissioning projects.
Jan De Nul said Voltaire will also be the first vessel of its type to be EU Stage V-certified for ’ultra-low emissions.’
Voltaire will be fitted with a 3,000-tonne capacity main crane and will be a DP2 vessel. It will be capable of operating in water depths of more than 80 m and will have a payload of approximately 14,000 tonnes and accommodation for 110 people.
The vessel is due to be delivered in 2022.
