The French National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) has launched a public consultation on future floating wind projects off the coast of southern Brittany.
The country’s multi-year energy program (Multiannual Energy Programming (PPE)) provides for the auctioning of 8.75 GW of offshore wind capacity between 2020 and 2028 and the development of 6.2 GW of wind power capacity. operating period.
Two of these calls for tenders will relate to a 250 MW floating wind project off the coast of Brittany in 2021 and for a wind farm with a capacity of up to 500 MW from 2024. The projects are planned to have a shared connection to the network.
The public consultation will take place from July 20 to November 30 and should help the Ministry of Ecological Transition decide on the potential site of the projects. Wind farms are expected to be built over an area of approximately 600 km2.
The consultations carried out in Brittany in recent years have already identified areas conducive to the establishment of new offshore wind farms.
Additional themes of the consultation will include how to integrate projects into the grid, maintenance of wind farms, as well as issues related to the environmental impact of projects.
