VLCV has safely and successfully completed its first assignment on the Borssele project.
VLCV was contracted to install 2 shore approaches (500 mtr DN400) reaching from LAT on the mudflats to approximately -50m LAT at the edge of the navigational channel of the Western Scheldt including all associated works.
The company designed a revolutionary solution based on their Direct Drill system and work methods used in the past during complex offshore horizontal drilling works. To accommodate the pull in of the 220kV power cables, a bellmouth was designed to safeguard the minimum bending radius of the cables and reduce pull-in forces. The method of the bellmouth installation at -50m LAT in a harsh environment, with high currents and no visibility, was engineered in house as well. All drilling, installation, marine and subsea services (ROV and diving) including land and marine civil works were provided by VLCV.
The project started in September 2019.
