The Port of Amsterdam together with Zeehaven IJmuiden will turn a dredging depot at the former Averijhaven in the Port of IJmuiden into an energy port to serve as a base for the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms.
The port is carrying out the Energiehaven project in collaboration with the province of North Holland, the municipality of Velsen, Tata Steel, and Zeehaven IJmuiden.
The Energiehaven, located in front of the sea locks in Ijmuiden, will spread over 15 hectares and comprise both the area of the Averijhaven and Tata Steel’s 5-hectare site to set up a public harbour area for offshore wind.
With its strategic location, the new port to be developed is crucial for, among other things, the construction of offshore wind farms in the North Sea, which will take off in the coming years. The Energiehaven strengthens the position of the North Sea Canal Area as the Dutch center for Wind at Sea.
The Energiehaven will have an area of over 15 hectares and a multifunctional port terminal. Both the area of the current Averijhaven and the adjacent 5-hectare site of Tata Steel will be used to set up a public port area. The port site will have a quay of 580 meters, of which 200 meters will be heavy-duty with 12.5 meters of water depth and 380 meters of standard quay (water depth 10.0 meters).
It is not yet known when the new port of Energy will be definitely realized. This will certainly take a few years.
