An oilfield services firm with a major operating base in Aberdeen has bagged its first significant Scottish offshore wind contract in what is understood to be a multi-million deal.
Petrofac, was today named as the preferred supplier of onshore and offshore substations for SSE’s giant Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm.
It is understood the onshore work will create around 100 jobs locally. It is also understood that up to 410 jobs could be created to operate the wind farm.
The contract, agreed with SSE subsidiary, SSE Renewables, will see Petrofac responsible for the design, supply and installation of onshore and offshore substations as part of the project’s transmission package.
Petrofac will also bring in an unnamed Scottish engineering contractor for some of the onshore substation work.
Elie Lahoud, Petrofac’s group managing director of engineering and construction, said: “We have been involved in a number of similar projects in the North Sea and are delighted to have been appointed to be part of the Seagreen project, which will be Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm.
“This will enable us to continue to grow our capability and experience in offshore wind and supports our diversification into renewable energy.”
