In a big step that guarantees a healthy stream of investment, President Tsai Ing-wen announced that in the 10 years from 2026 to 2035, Taiwan will add 1GW of wind energy capacity per year.
Speaking during the inauguration of Formosa 1, the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm earlier this month, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen stated that a further mid-term commitment to the wind industry was an important step to ensure the industry can plan ahead and develop a strong supply chain, and make Taiwan a leader in Asia’s wind power market.
20 percent of Taiwan’s total power generation in renewables (mainly wind) by 2025, the first step, is now underway. The further announcement of 1GW per year for the 10 years thereafter, combined with Taiwan’s strong democratic values, respect for intellectual property and diligent workforce, provides a great basis for planning.
