Marine Consultants (SMC) has been awarded a contract to provide Marine Coordination services to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy at the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm.
Formosa I is located 3km off the coast of Miaoli in North-West Taiwan and comprises of two phases. Phase 1 is operational and includes two Siemens 4 MW demonstration turbines, which were installed in 2016. Phase 2 is under construction and will add a further 20 SWT-6.0-154 turbines, with a total output of 120 MW.
The Formosa 1 contract will be the 35th Marine Coordination project SMC has executed in the offshore wind sector.
SMC Operations Director, Dean Coates, commented, “We are extremely pleased to continue our work with SGRE on what is yet another flagship endeavour for both companies. This contract is our 3rd Marine Coordination contract in Taiwan, adding to our experience in providing further services to the region. Taiwan and the wider East Asian market have become a particularly important area of focus for SMC in recent years and we look forward to providing continued and experienced support to this emerging market.”
