Belgium’s Transmission System Operator Elia has awarded to Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) a contract for the fabrication of an Offshore Switch Yard (OSY) platform for the Modular Offshore Grid (MOG) project.
Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven, CEO of HFG states: “We are very pleased with this award from Elia, which came after a very comprehensive and competitive tender process. We are looking forward to contributing to Elia’s innovative offshore grid development. For HFG this contract represents another important addition to our offshore wind portfolio.”
The contract scope includes procurement, fabrication and offshore hook-up and commissioning of the OSY platform. The topside will be fabricated in HFG’s Zwijndrecht yard, with jacket fabrication taking place in HFG’s specialized jacket yard in Vlissingen.
The OSY platform will be located approximately 40km from the coast of Zeebrugge in the Belgian part of the North Sea in water depths between 30 -35 meters. The OSY platform will connect four planned offshore wind farms to the Belgium onshore grid connection point in Zeebrugge.
The topside weight is approximately 2,100 ton and the jacket weight is approximately 1,400 ton. Construction of the OSY platform will start in March 2018. The jacket will be installed in November 2018 and the topside will be installed in March 2019.
Following the contract award the First Steel Cut ceremony was held last week at the Heerema Zwijndrecht yard.
