Offshore oil and gas contractor Saipem is understood to have been awarded a contract to install the substations for Dong Energy’s Hornsea Project One offshore windfarm.
Quoting industry sources, broker Nor-Ocean Offshore, a part of Arctic Securities, said Saipem has been awarded the installation work for all four offshore substations for Hornsea Project One.
Offshore installation is scheduled for Q2/Q3 2018. Saipem is expected to utilise its heavy lift vessel Saipem 7000 for the job. Saipem is a relative newcomer to offshore wind industry, but recently completed a contract for lifting and mating operations for the Hywind Scotland floating offshore windfarm.
The company has been seeking greater exposure to markets not directly impacted by the oil price, in which it can leverage its assets and know-how.
