Vroon Offshore Services is to provide logistics support, accommodation and walk-to-work services for MHI Vestas Offshore Wind during construction of Dong Energy’s 660MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
Vroon will deploy its subsea-support vessel ‘VOS Start’, which will provide hotel-standard accommodation and work space for up to 60 personnel.
The vessel will be fitted with a motion-compensated gangway to help facilitate the easy transfer of personnel, equipment and spare parts to wind turbines during commissioning, the Dutch company said.
The vessel will also perform ‘mother-ship’ duties for crew-transfer vessels, it added.
MHI Vestas will supply 40 V164 8MW turbines to the first phase of project, construction of which is scheduled to start in summer 2017.
The wind farm is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2018.
