Petrofac has awarded Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) with an AFC contract to fabricate a substation platform for the 336MW Galloper offshore wind farm.
Heerema Hartlepool will be in charge of fabricating the unmanned offshore substation platform. Project engineering and procurement are being undertaken by Petrofac as part of the GE Petrofac Consortium.
The Galloper substation platform, scheduled for delivery in early 2017, will connect turbine generators to a single offshore substation platform (OSP) by subsea array cables. The OSP will be linked to the onshore transition joint bay near Sizewell by two subsea export cables.
The offshore site is located within the outer Thames Estuary, 27 kilometres off the Suffolk coast with water depths of 27 to 39 metres.
The Galloper OWF is an extension to the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm, but is being developed as an entirely separate entity. The wind farm will comprise 56 Siemens 6MW wind turbines, and once commissioned in the first quarter of 2018, it will produce enough clean power to meet the demand of around 336,000 average UK households.
