Veja Mate Ofshore Wind Substation is currently under construction at a Belgium reputable yard.
This high-end and DNV-GL certified topside is equipped with a dedicated DBR off-line fuel treatment system. This containerized system is located between two storage tanks of 75m3 each and the day tanks of three grid diesel generator sets and the emergency diesel generator.
The off-line fuel treatment system is engineered, produced and tested by DBR, is completely redundant and operated totally separate from the main power system. Actuated valves and pumps take care about the correct flow and direction of the gasoil. The total system has designed to operate 24/7, which is possible even when the main system is shut down or in order to change filter inserts.
Generators cannot without fuel supply and a fuel treatment system cannot without fuel consumers. “Both systems have a lot of interfaces (piping, electrical, functional). In order to minimize these kinds of interfaces, we have chosen to engineer and to build both systems by our preferred Offshore supplier DBR,” said a spokesman from Cofely Fabricom.
To reduce failures the control and monitoring of all applicable actuated valves inside and outside the DBR fuel treatment package are monitored and controlled from single point inside the container. Control is in-house programmed in a DNV-GL marine certified open PLC with front touch panel. The transmitters from fuel storage tanks are connected to the control panel in order to receive real-time information about the available gas oil. Why using a fuel treatment system? Lower temperatures causes condensation water in the fuel tanks. Water in diesel causes bacteria, which decreases the quality of the fuel. Bad diesel quality causes wear and tear at the engine or even in not allowed to use the gensets anymore. The result is that fuel needs to be changed. Changing gas oil is an expensive option.
“With this dedicated designed fuel treatment system the growth of bacteria can be prevented, extends the life time of the gas oil and reduces the maintenance costs of the equipment,” said Henri Hafkamp, sales manager of DBR Generatorsets.
DBR also delivered the 3x1250kVA containerized grid generator sets, type DTL1250R2S and 1x 400kVA emergency diesel package, type DML400R2S in accordance to the applicable DNV-GL classification rules.
